Student Life at Croydon Metropolitan College

Croydon Metropolitan College resides in an attractive and secure part of South London, only a bus ride away from the perks of Central London. Our students have the best of both worlds as they can travel into Central London in their free time to explore the bustling, cosmopolitan capital while they are educated in a somewhat quieter and tranquil area in South London. For full time students, classes are scheduled between the hours of 8:45am and 4:00pm, from Monday to Friday. All our full time courses are for a minimum of 15-20 hours organised daytime study per week. For part-time students days will vary depending on which subjects are being studied. Part time courses take place on weekdays from 4:00pm-8:00pm and on Saturdays from 9:00am-2:00pm. Extra tuition classes also run during the Easter holidays for final exam preparation and guidance.

Student Performance

Student performance is monitored closely to inform students and their carers of any disparity between their measured and expected performance. Regular homework and frequent testing is an important feature on all of our courses. In general, students can expect to receive at least one hour's homework for each hour of tuition they receive. All homework is marked thoroughly and returned promptly. Students are tested every two weeks in each subject. Frequent meetings are held with students, the principal and senior staff to discuss each individual's progress. Written reports are sent to parent/guardians every term and there are parent's evenings in the autumn and spring terms where parents can meet their son or daughter's personal tutor.

Teachers and Staff

Teachers and staff at CMC are dedicated to their student's performance and aim to maximise each student's potential. Teachers are highly qualified and experienced in the fields they teach making classes both motivational and rewarding. Staff are approachable and welcome questions and comments from students and their carers.

Life in London

CMC is just a bus ride away from the bustling capital of Central London. The city boasts history, heritage and culture which lives on through pageantry such as the Changing of the Guard Ceremony and Trooping the Colour. Buckingham Palace opens its doors to the public every summer and historical places such as Hampton Court and the Tower of London are popular tourist attractions. Museums exist in abundance as well as art galleries housing both contemporary and traditional artwork. Oxford Street and Harrods offer plenty of retail therapy for the shopaholics amongst you.

Careers

The college advisors interview and advise every student who enrols in August about possible and/or chosen career paths. This continues throughout the student's life here at CMC. Students are also given guidance regarding interview technique. Many of the college advisors have in-depth knowledge about Business and Medical fields, therefore know what is required of the students by the admission tutors.

Student Counselling

Student counsellors are available for any student who would like to talk confidentially about any personal issue. Counsellors work both independently and in collaboration with other college support services and will, if appropriate, suggest other people who might be helpful.
