GCSE MATHS
The new 9-1 GCSE maths course is designed to really push students and stretch their mathematical ability in a range of new contexts. Students are taught not only how to do maths but how to evaluate their skills and decide the best methods to use themselves. Less formulae is given in the exams and questions are now synoptic, bringing together all skills learnt across the two year course
GCSE Maths is a fundamentally important subject for all students. With the new grading system in place, it is exceedingly more important for students to push themselves up the difficulty scale with confidence in order to succeed. GCSE maths is a core requirement for most colleges, university and professional settings.
COURSE STRUCTRE
The GCSE maths course is broken down into 6 main topic groups:
- Number
- Algebra
- Geometry
- Proportion
- Measure
- Statistics (Probability and Data handling)
Topics are taught at any time throughout the two year course, with a more emphasised focus on bringing topics together and using material learnt in different context such as physic or finances. A lot more time will be spent understanding the theory of maths and enhancing problem solving skills
ASSESSMENT
The 9-1 GCSE Maths course is now split up into three equally weighted papers testing all topics in each paper. Paper one is non calculator. Papers start off with easy (grade 1) questions and quickly progress to more challenging (grade 9) questions.
Higher Paper: Grades 4-9
Foundation Paper: Grades 1-6
